It might seem like the Sunshine State would be a place where depression has a hard time thriving, but the reality is that depression affects people no matter how sunny or beautiful their surroundings are.
Another harsh truth about depression is that it’s not always easy to treat. While traditional therapies and medications work for some, many others are finding themselves at a loss when nothing seems to help.
That’s why Sun Health Center is proud to offer the citizens of Deerfield Beach and the Boca Raton area some new therapies to help when traditional depression treatments just aren’t doing the trick.
Ketamine Infusion Therapy
Ketamine therapy involves using an IV drip to introduce very small doses of ketamine into the bloodstream. Because it’s being introduced in an intravenous manner, the ketamine is able to quickly act to fight some of the more severe symptoms of major depressive disorder.
While ketamine is traditionally an anesthetic used in surgery, in very small doses the effects have been found to be incredibly beneficial for depression. By targeting NMDA receptors in the brain and binding to them, a neurotransmitter called glutamate is produced in greater quantities and activates a reaction that allows new neural pathways to open.
Essentially, ketamine allows the patient’s brain to create new thoughts and feelings to displace the current depressive symptoms. This results in an almost immediate lightening of the mood and better outlook on life.
It’s not just a momentary effect, either. The benefits of ketamine therapy can last for weeks before needing a followup treatment.
It’s great news for patients suffering from depression who have tried other methods of treatment, but who have hit a wall in experiencing beneficial effects.
Teletherapy
When someone is suffering from depression or depressive thoughts, it’s easy to feel isolated and alone. Sometimes a patient just needs somebody to talk to, but getting out of the house seems like a daunting task all on its own.
In these cases, teletherapy could be the perfect solution.
The idea of remote therapy sessions really picked up a lot of steam and popularity during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact is that it is such an accessible and effective option that its popularity continued to rise even after lockdown restrictions were eased and the world began to return to its normal pacing.
It’s not just a one-time thing, either. Many patients rely solely on teletherapy for their weekly sessions, drawing comfort from the easy access to a professional therapist from their own homes.
It’s not just for depression either. Our therapists are licensed and trained in “evidence-based” interventions for anxiety, depression, addiction, and other mental health disorders as well.
Peak Performance Treatment
While it’s not specifically focused on treating depression, our Peak Performance service is aimed at optimizing brain functionality and health. Achieving full mental potential is something that goes a long way to living a happier and more fulfilling life.
The Peak Performance service sessions might typically include things like breathing and heart rate variability training, neurofeedback training, and targeted electromagnetic stimulation of the brain.
However each client has their own goals, and therefore an individual plan consisting of a variable number of Neuro Therapy sessions will be devised for their specific needs.
It’s certainly an exciting time for the field of mental health. New treatments are leading the way to a happier and healthier life for people who are suffering from mental health disorders, or generally feeling like they’re not getting as much out of life as they should be.
Sun Health Center is proud to be at the forefront of this new wave of treatment, and we’re excited to help the people of Florida achieve a greater fulfillment within their own lives.
