As a medical provider of substance abuse treatment and mental healthcare, Sun Health Centers takes patient privacy very seriously. We also strive—to the degree that it is within our power—to protect the privacy of online visitors to our website. This page offers more details about our privacy policy as it applies to the security and confidentiality of personal data or information that may be collected when you visit our website.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
At Sun Health Centers, we’re always looking to improve our services and better understand the needs of the population we serve (both existing and prospective patients). To help us do that, we collect the following types of data:
Comments
When you or other visitors make comments on our website, we collect these comments. We also collect the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect and prevent spam before approving a comment.
We use Gravatar for help posting comments and profile pictures associated with those comments. (The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.) This involves the creation of a “hash”—an anonymized string that represents your email address—which allows Gravatar to determine whether you’re using their service. If so, once your comment is approved, your profile picture will also be visible to the public next to your comment.
Contact forms
We want you to be able to contact us discreetly and conveniently via our contact form, which asks for your name, email, and phone number. We use this information strictly for the purposes of contacting you and answering your questions. We do not share it with third parties or for purposes outside the scope of your inquiry.
Cookies
Visitors who leave comments on our site are given the option, via cookies, of having their name and email address automatically remembered by our site for the span of one year. This function is meant to save visitors the added time of repeatedly having to again fill in their details every time they leave a comment on our site.
There’s also a temporary cookie on our log-in page that determines if a first-time visitor’s browser accepts cookies, but this cookie does not contain personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
We have also set up several cookies to save your login information and screen display choices when you log in. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login credentials will last for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
Analytics
Analytics are another type of data that we collect. In some cases, we may engage the help of a third party to measure and evaluate these analytics, with a view to understanding traffic to our site and usage trends (pages visited, total length of time spent on our site, etc.). This information is provided and evaluated in aggregate form, in order to protect the individual privacy of our online visitors. Having this data not only helps us keep improving our services but also makes it possible to efficiently identify and correct technical issues on our site.
Embedded content from other websites
Videos, images, and articles are examples of embedded content from other websites that may appear on our site, whether in blogs or site pages. Linking to this content on our site is the equivalent of visiting that site, which may have a different privacy policy. (They may collect personal data, use their own cookies, embed third-party tracking, and track your interaction with its content.) Please keep in mind that Sun Health Centers is not able to be responsible for breaches of personal privacy when you click on this embedded content on our site.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
Who May See Your Data
As mentioned, there may be times when Sun Health Centers contracts with a trusted third party to perform data hosting services, data analytics, customer service, consulting, and event registration services. The goal, when enlisting the help of a trusted third party in one or more of these ways, will be to optimize the marketing and delivery of SHC’s services. At no time will a third party be entrusted with personal data or information that falls outside the scope of its strictly defined duties and services. Only strictly necessary information will be made available in these instances.
How long we retain your data
Comments left on our site (and their metadata) are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically. When a visitor registers on our website via a user profile, we store that personal information, which users are also able to edit or delete at any time— the one exception being their username, which stays the same. Our website administrator can also access and edit this information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you have the right to request that any personal data or information left on this site, whether intentionally or inadvertently, be deleted. Upon request, we can also provide you with an exported file of the personal data we have on record for you— with the exception of data that we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Your contact information
We will not use comments that you’ve made on our site or other data to solicit you. The only time we will contact you is when you fill out our contact form. By submitting a contact form, you agree not to hold SHC liable for hacking or other unauthorized use of your personal information by outside parties.
